School Support Program

The School Support Program is designed to assist youth that are experiencing an array of difficulties that are barriers to maintaining a school placement. Many live in unstructured family environments with high levels of social-economical disadvantage. These youth often demonstrate negative responses as a result of these issues, such as substance abuse, at risk for criminogenic behavior and/or gang involvement, homelessness and mental/emotional/physical health concerns. Youth participants are having attendance problems or are struggling to maintain a school placement. They are experiencing behavioral, legal, home and/or truancy issues, all of which are factors that impact on their education.

The objective of the School Support Program is to provide the best possible assistance/support to the youth, family/guardians and the school. Staff support youth in all areas of their lives. They provide support to youth so that they maintain and improve the school placement thus decreasing the likely hood of placement breakdown.

The School Support Program accommodates a maximum of 12 youth between the ages of 12 to 17.

School Support assists youth:

● By provide support regarding legal issues by transporting and attending court, lawyers, probation reporting and case conference appointments.

·   By coordinate case planning with any & all involved community agencies.

·   By conducting home and school visits to monitor progress of the youth.

·   By maintain daily contact with youth, schools, workers and/or guardians in regards to the youth’s progress.

·   By having a structured day program for youth during school breaks and throughout the summer months.

·   By having one to one sessions with youth in order to establish and maintain relationships.

Although each youth has an individualized case plan, the intensity of support would decrease as the student successfully re-engaged in maintaining improved levels of behavior and academic progress.
