Full Time Outreach Worker - Baby Steps

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Baby Steps Outreach worker’s purpose is to provide support and services to the parents who are involved in the Baby Steps Program.

SCOPE

Baby Steps Outreach reports to the Supervisor of Unification and/or the Coordinator of Outreach and Family Unification.  Baby Steps Outreach provides services to parents who are working towards building their parenting skills, life skills, accessing community resources and support, and re-entry into independent living.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide community support and services to clients
  • Community referrals 
  • Transportation to appointments
  • Referrals to community resources
  • Provide advocacy in the community through education, justice (court), financial, health and informal counseling
  • Addictions support which may include detox and treatment
  • Documenting daily information 
  • Prepares periodic reports and records on program activities, progress, status or other special reports for management or outside agencies
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Saskatoon Downtown Youth Centre’s programs and services
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Saskatoon Downtown Youth Centre’s mandate and mission.
  • Knowledge of community resources 
  • Understanding issues surrounding substance abuse, addictions, Youth and Adult Criminal Justice Acts, homelessness and mental health.
  • Understanding crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and behavioral management strategies
  • Good working knowledge of the Adult Social Assistance Program 
  • Understanding of cultural diversity
